When I first got my own land (actually, it was on Nexus's property, in Meins), I had those ban lines on and didn't realize it.

Finally this person happened to say something like, "Guess you want to be alone, huh?" And I said what? Then he told me that he saw ban lines. I was pretty new in the game at that time, and I didn't even know these couldn't be seen by the person who had them on.

I don't know how it happens that you get ban lines on without knowing it - I think I clicked something or other that wasn't clear, thinking I was doing something else.

But I bet I'm not the only one who did that by accident. They ought to make it harder to do, and so that you SEE them when they are up on your own property!

It's too bad, too, that we all assume they know they are on, and consequently don't bother them. I'm glad that person made a comment to me.

Mmm, I remember people like these! The thing is, this notion of, "It's MY land and I can do whatever I like with it," seems to cancel out, "Well, there are other people here and I should respect their feelings as well as my own."
You'll get many land idiots, but most of them aren't like this, Prokofy.
Oh and P.S., I'm sorry I missed your meeting last night, I came on too late. :P I coulda put some input in it, too...

1. It is his land, which he has every right to turn them on, if he chooses.

2. This is an unfortunate by-product of P2P and something we'll probably see more of.

3. Most people would probably take kindly to the suggestion and turn them off - some won't. In those cases, don't TP to the default landing point on the sim.

4. AR it if it bothers you that much, though I don't know if the Lindens can do anything other than move the sim default landing point.

1. I don't care if it is "his land". It is "his land" in a context which is decidedly a public commons, a free and open market place. With his land on ban, people can't even come in and buy his items LOL. If he wants to put his home on ban, I guess we can't complain -- the tools allow it, and he seems to think the price of his privacy is worth the annoyance of others around his home.

In a marketplace, bans have absolutely no place. None. They don't belong. Indeed, it's only due to a game and sim peculiarity that Brown has marketplaces of 96 m2 for sale to individuals, instead of being run as merely Governor Linden parkland without autoreturn, which might make more sense, but would require more policing.

I'm all for increasing awareness of people that they are in a community, their actions affect others, and they don't have the right to impose their own enjoyment of Second Life in such a way as to harm the enjoyment of Second Life of others.

2. It is indeed an unfortunate byproduct of p2p the Lindens simply ignored -- worse, some of them simply refuse to understand the issue. They think everyone just points and clicks on the map. They refuse to listen to people telling them that people type and teleport using the map LIST.

They could fix this by making it so all typing of sims led to that set of sims' infohub. That would be restoring telehub-like function and value -- but without the forced endurance of some telehub laggy malls and avatar traps. Don't like them? Just click on the map then, don't type the name.

3. No, I'm going to keep up my battle against 128/128 hogs, as I've found in 50 percent of the cases, people simply didn't realize they were an inconvenience, and were publicly spirited enough to move their bans or builds so people could land. In another 50 percent of the cases, people were assholes and clung stubbornly to their position for days, but after enough people complained, some of them turned their annoying bans off.

It's intersting that Milow Bukowski now has his ban line off. It no longer inconveniences the general public. What he has viciously done, out of spite, is just to leave Random Unsung, my alt, on his ban list, so it is banned to the one person who complained on behalf of the public. The general public can benefit from such personal sacrifices : )

No, I'm not willing to start pulling up the map, waiting for it to resolve in the laggy came, peering at it trying to figure out where to land, knowing that it often doesn't update very fast, etc. etc. No. I'm going to quickly type "brown" and push "teleport" which is much, much faster.

4. I did AR it, and I got a serious study of it from one Linden merely because it's a Linden-zoned sim. The fact is, the 128/128 landing point belong to another person's stall is now clear, because she immediately got the problem, didn't realize the ban-all was on, and cleared it. So technically, that left Milo then NOT in the 128/128 but only *right next to it* so that as you try to fly up and out, you hit his ban lines. So the Lindens *technically* have no reason to do anything I guess.

"Moving the landing point" is not an option. All sims default to 128/128, Juro. They can't "move them". That is, maybe Lindens can move them. I wish they would. But they sure as hell aren't going to entertain individual requests for thousands of sims. I'm for them moving the landing point of all typed in requests for sims to Infohubs. I think that's a great idea to liven up Infohubs, take away the windfalls to the stores at 128/128, or the annoyances if that happens to be somebody's poseballs, and nobody should complain -- if they hate that idea, let them not type in names of sims to lists, let them unfurl the map, point, click.

You're just not getting this, like so many people. You're confusing the ability of a person to set the landing point of their individual parcel, which they can of course, do, with the Lindens having set the landing point of all sims to 128/128.

Your snarky answers aren't appreciated, Juro, because they are predicated on the notion that I'm stupid and don't understand something technically about this -- when you're the one who seems not to get it. I can't reset- 128/128/ And the Linden likely have compelling technical -- or sheer time problems -- in resetting it on a case-by-case basis.

My proposal for moving it back to telehubs/infohubs is politically incorrect, but a great solution!

Ultimately, I feel there's an urgent need to fight back against the culture of "WTF I do on my property". It's the bane of Second Life. We can have property rights, freedom, security and discretion on our properties. But as in RL, that means a modicum of consideration of one's neighbour.

juro kothari

Prokofy, I made a few points - most of which were inline with your thoughts on the matter - they weren't 'snarky' and I *do* get it, but I also recognize a few items which evidentally you don't or don't care to.

Yes, its a bitch that some people have that attitude, but then again, most of them probably had that land before all of this and, well, what do you do?

Andrea Sorenson Hardy

you ARE an ass wipe, asswipe!!!!

Prokofy Neva

I'm convinced anew how right I was about this issue, how perfect my solution is -- make type-ins go not to 128/128 but to infohubs -- and how easy it would be for the Lindens to fix this.

After all, p2p can be used easily by the map, clicking anywhere, or by FIND or classifieds.

What's needed, however, is for lots of people, the Lindens included, to climb down from their anti-telehub obsession.

To date, the asswipe Milo still has his ban on Random, and still vexes his landings there. What a fucking jerk. SL is populated with such assholes, and exposing them one at a time is my current life's mission : )
