Hey, remember the Bush guy? Nobody ever rants about him much anymore -- the forums dogs have barked, the caravan moves on.
But he remains in the game, blighting the land, actually growing as the world grows, and only disappearing from some sims when people cave and buy him out -- or possibly he even voluntarily removes himself when he sees they aren't buying? Hard to know. He's now gone from Ocula, Cottonwood, and the Chukchi/Orient area, where he used to hold an entire beautiful basin of people hostage. He's gone even from the Gourdeneck area where I steadfastly refused to buy his parcels -- as did neighbours -- and battled him by buying instead the other overpriced parcel from those wierd Fruitcee people from Japan or something with the Really Bright Buildings (I kinda like them!) and putting up my popular Anti-Extortion Kit (contents: one Huge Pine Tree, one petition to Philip Linden, etc.)
I never paid him; but I suspect some did in other areas, as one guy had a sign up saying "help buy back SL a square at a time". Never, never buy from him. We can win this thing, with some patience!
He's still got $8000 worth of 64 m2 mature flat out for me to buy in Juanita, in a sim where there are only myself and 2-3 others -- none of us want him, nor will pay for it, and all have abuse-reported him regularly. Another patch of his there is more like $2000 -- still no sale, champ!
Well, what can you do, you say? The Lindens are not going to change. And aren't they designing some invisiprim thingie anyway?
Well, hell, no, they aren't doing that, please. It's funny how many people on the forums were bought off by the mere *discussion* by Hiro Pendragon of an invisiprim kinda solution thinking that's the Lindens who are going to do that. Whoop, knowing of Hiro's greatly expanded powers these days, maybe it *is* the Lindens who are going to do that, but not any time soon!
But...could they actually come around on this in response to overwhelming reaction from the community (of which they've had a lot already!) I believe they *can* change, and look here, they have a newly redesigned newsletter, called Second Opinion (the name "Second Thoughts" already having been taken *cough*).
In it, is an editorial...about the Bush Guy called "Signs of the Times" in which they invite reader correspondence. So write in today! I wrote in summarizing the petition we have out already, just cut and paste this petition if you're in a hurry.
again, thanks for pushing this issue prok. As I note in our group's recent blog -- flyingmonks.blogspot.com -- it's not just the signage that's offending, but the absenteeism of LL in allowing this all to go on and on. As it has been mentioned, RL governments balance values and rights all the time, but at least most governments, be they elected or not, would likely have attempted to defuse this kind of issue by now.
best, TT

And to think, I thought "Bush Guy" was gone.
You are right, though, Prokofy, we do need to revisit this blight on SL history again. It has died down far too quickly and I believe the so-called Bush Guy was depending on that.
I'll visit the website...thanks. :)

The forums are like the war in Iraq... everybody is outraged for a couple days, then everyone forgets about it and wants to move on.
And every so often, we're reminded that a problem exists.

I am surprised that people have just gave Lordfly a pass on his forum begging. I mean seriously, get a job, pay it off. Don't be a dumbass and put tuition on credit cards and move to a state with a decent economy so you can support yourself. People have been scammed on the internet enough, and I can't believe people are passing LF on the back for being such a self centered jerk. If he refuses to make things that people want, how is he going to repair this debt? If he is too lazy to get a real job and work to support himself, how is he goint to pay back this debt? Yeah. Right.
