This post, which I made early Friday morning EST, was simply removed from the official Second Life forums without notice or comment. I know it posted, because I even saved a copy with the time stamp, and I looked at it and saw it post. So apparently it was simply removed as too controversial, although this exact discussion is on Sluniverse.com which Ebbe Linden himself patronizes. The conclusions go up against that FIC clique, however, which is maybe why it was removed, plus it mentions the "Supply Linden" policy which is surely no secret but the Lindens don't advertise it I guess. I really didn't expect it to be removed when I posted it, it actually didn't occur to me, so it was surprising.
Next, I was issued a disciplinary warning about ANOTHER post which was weeks ago -- so one has the feeling they first ditched the post they didn't like about the LindEx, then went trawling for ARs against me on another one, just to create a climate of intimidation. Ugh. The odious Jetaime, one of the prim-a-donnas on the forums, AR'd me because I asked a simple question based on a factual statement: When did you last update your office? The build looks like it was from 2007. I will find my post HERE on this blog about that -- I was stunned when I went to this woman's office after having her harangue me multiple times on the forums.
Nothing in it was mesh, let along from any period after 2006-2007 -- and it looked entirely unvisited (no traffic). This avatar like so many forums bullies probably never logs in! She's one of those know-it-alls constantly defending LL like a simpering little fangirl and then also trying to put every other person in their place. This is what makes the forums so nasty. They aren't as nasty as they were at their peak in 2005 when I was banned for standing up to the bullies there. But they're nasty and unpleasant with little worms like Alwin Alcott just making life miserable, making nasty comments to newbies or people with innocent questions in particular. REALLY annoying. The Lindens "do nothing". They've outsourced the moderation to people with strange names, my God, I hope they aren't our fellow residents.
So, here's my post -- which refers to the LindEx as it stood then. It is little different now, with L$114,847,236 at the 249 mark -- which continues to illustrate my point!

It is a fact of our Second Life that we are now losing a point on cash-outs again -- unless we're willing to wait 2 days or more -- and usually more, while "limited sell" orders are placed. Here are the rates currently for the selling of Lindens to obtain US dollars, with the dollar rate first for emphasis:
$3.86 250
$3.88 249
$3.90 248
Here are the offers at this time:
L$249/US 1.00 L$117,101,964
L$248/US 1.00 L$239,427,211
L $247/US 1.00 L$15,139,137
Given how anyone can click and see these numbers at any time, it's a marvel that people keep disputing what is really happening, yet they do.
To sell your Linden dollars when there is more than a hundred million Lindens stacked up (more than $433,000 real dollars) at the 249 rate, you go to 250 obviously because more than a hundred million Lindens cannot sell in an hour or even a day.
This is being argued now over at Sluniverse.com but of course they are in denial and also a few are serving their own interests, i.e. not wanting to drive the rate value down further by discussion.
These are the kind of people who say "Oh, I don't mind if I lose US $4 on my $1,000 cashouts". Oh, ok, but some of us actually take the trouble to put 248 or now 249 precisely to save a few cents or even a dollar on much smaller cashouts because why not save money? Given the high costs of doing business in LL.
Especially now that the rates are HIGHER because now LL offers a *faster* cashout. Most would be happier with a faster cash-out even at the expense of a higher rate. That seems reasonable and has been a demand on LL for years. It's good they've met that demand.
But sure enough, what it has led to now is a LOSS OF ANOTHER POINT. And this cannot be disputed by anyone who bothers to spend even a small of time on the LindEx. As someone who is on there every day and has spent years in SL and remembers the GOM debacle, I can tell you that if for years, we have been able to cash out at 249 if we were in a hurry, but leave it at 248 where MILLIONS are stacked up, today, 248 is imprudent even with a month wait; 249 will take days or even a week. That is a loss of a point.
The question is: why?
- "Supply Linden" is over-active again. LL is diluting the cashout by deliberately printing and selling money, to keep the cost of the Linden down so that consumers can go on enjoying a low cost and the feeling that "a thousand Lindens" buys all these amazing things like cars and skins and a week's rental or a house, instead of feeling like less than what a latte costs.
- Merchants continue to give up and head for the door over fears of Project Sansar, frustrations with mesh uptake and consumer discontent, poor sim performance, who knows.
- It's tax time, and people have to pay their taxes at least in the US, and people do pay taxes on their SL incomes in fact, or they use that SL income to pay RL taxes and/or other bills coming due, perhaps their overstretched Christmas credit cards.
