Here's my idea of bed & breakfasts, in an old-fashioned countryside of seaside home like RL, but with an SL twist, where you get a locked skybox to retreat to from your room as well. So you have the use of the downstairs and a place to socialize and bring friends but also your own space without having to rent a lot of land.
This is just a sketch -- I will come back and fill in more links and names of creators later.
Basically, I wanted to combine old SL prim heirlooms of high quality, like the "antiques" in a RL B&B, then some of the new mesh, both more costly by the top designers, but also inexpensive "$35 Linden Sundays" sort of stuff that frankly is more familiar to my tenants and cheap for me. I put in $50 gatcha wins or even rares. It's fun. I find half the people, let's say, ask me to take away everything, which I let them do if they pay a $25 fee -- because it's a chore to put out again. For that $25 they can do something else -- go to my store room and pick out some other thing -- which they often opt to do. But it's interesting that some people like it exactly the way it is, and even leave it that way for weeks on end. It's me that comes and changes the flowers or puts out an easter egg or a spring flower basket to change it up a bit.
Sometimes what people put out instead of my mesh is worse but it doesn't matter, this is SL, people do what they want.
I try to find things that are interactive and usable and useful and have good camera angles where people actually sit in rooms and socialize sometimes for hours at a time. I so often see blogs with these artfully-created scenes like flash-frozen flowers and still-lifes that are like Victorian boxes or sculptures of things that have a "look" for a blog photo shoot, but aren't where people really live. Since people are renting these homes and spending time in them, I know they don't want them to look like a flash-frozen photo shoot that they never touch but be something they can sit on comfortably and add their own stuff to.
I want the kitchen to be a place where people feel they can come and raid it in the middle of the night or just come and make deviled eggs with animations or cookies or chocolate -- I have some of these in various places. I love the furniture that has all the props so that the "breakfast" part of the B&B has actual croissants and laptops and newspapers. Sometimes I see people have taken pictures in my rentals and made it part of their "picks" of their special moments with their friends and lovers -- these picks aren't about location but about stories. I've seen hundreds -- thousands -- of these in my 12 years of SL that are like story books -- stories that in fact I don't really know because I can't follow all of them and they aren't always meant to be followed.
